Frequently Asked Questions
Expert Knowledge Base
What is the difference between marble, quartzite, and quartz?
Marble is a naturally occurring metamorphic limestone, valued for its distinctive veining and classic elegance. It is porous and requires periodic sealing. Quartzite is also a natural metamorphic rock — formed from sandstone under extreme heat and pressure — making it harder and more heat-resistant than marble, with a crystalline texture. Quartz, by contrast, is an engineered surface composed of approximately 93% crushed natural quartz bound with polymer resins, offering consistent aesthetics, near-zero porosity, and exceptional durability without the maintenance requirements of natural stone.
Which granite is best for kitchen countertops?
For kitchen countertops, Absolute Black and Black Galaxy granites are consistently top-performing choices — both offer Mohs hardness of 6–7, excellent heat resistance, near-zero water absorption, and a mirror-polished finish that resists staining. Steel Grey is preferred in contemporary kitchen designs for its balanced aesthetic. For warmer tones, Tan Brown offers unique patterning with robust performance. All granites should be sealed at installation and re-sealed every 2–3 years for optimal surface protection.
Is imported marble better than Indian marble?
Neither is categorically superior — each excels in different applications. Imported marbles (Italian Calacatta, Statuario, Nero Marquina) are prized for their dramatic veining, colour consistency, and global prestige, making them ideal for statement interiors and luxury projects. Indian marbles (Makrana, Ambaji, Banswara) offer outstanding whiteness, high calcium carbonate purity (Makrana achieves 99.5%), and excellent value-to-quality ratios — used in heritage monuments, temples, and high-end residential projects. The choice depends on your design intent, project budget, and desired aesthetics. Exalter Terranova provides specification consultation to help you choose optimally.
Which stone is easiest to maintain?
Engineered quartz requires the least maintenance of all stone surfaces — its non-porous composition means no sealing, minimal staining risk, and easy cleaning with standard household products. Among natural stones, granite is the most low-maintenance: its dense crystalline structure resists moisture, staining, and scratching with just an annual seal. Quartzite requires moderate care — sealing twice yearly — while marble, being the most porous of the natural stones, benefits from regular sealing and immediate attention to acidic spills. For high-traffic or commercial installations, quartz or granite is most often recommended.
What paver blocks are best for outdoor spaces and heavy traffic?
For driveways, public plazas, and heavy-traffic commercial paving, our Interlocking Paver Blocks in 80mm or 100mm thickness are the definitive choice — they are engineered to withstand loads of up to 40 tonnes, resist weathering, and allow water permeation. For landscaping, garden pathways, and pool decks, natural Outdoor Stone Pavers with flamed or brushed anti-slip finishes combine safety with aesthetic elegance. Both ranges comply with IS standards for load-bearing and slip resistance. We provide project-specific recommendations based on expected traffic type and volume.
